How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign does not use any brackets or wires like traditional braces. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of transparent aligners. You wear these aligners for about 22 hours a day, they should be removed when you wish to eat or brush your teeth. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next aligner.
Unlike other systems of adult braces, Invisalign can fix more than just minor issues with your smile. In addition to being a solution to things like gapped teeth or misaligned teeth; Invisalign can also correct major issues with your bite such as overbite, underbite, cross bite, or open bite.
If you’re interested in Invisalign, we will evaluate your smile at our office. On occasion, there may a few things we need to correct prior to using Invisalign. If your teeth are healthy enough for Invisalign, we begin by making you a customized treatment plan.
We do this by taking a 3D scan of your mouth, which we use to map your mouth and your treatment sequence. With this new technology, we actually able to show you a model of what your teeth will look like after treatment. We can show you how your smile will change step by step, and we can make any changes you might desire.
Once you’re fully satisfied with the final model, the scans are sent to a dental lab which custom-produces the set of transparent aligners. This process takes about two week or so; once we receive the aligners, we’ll have you back in our office for a final fitting. Then you’re on your way to the smile you desire.
During your treatment, we will have you in the office about every six weeks. We want to ensure your treatment is progressing as it should; and we can address any concerns you may have. Invisalign takes about a year of use to bring the amazing results you want to see.
During your Invisalign sequence, we’ll have you back for appointments approximately every six weeks. We want to be sure that you and your teeth are moving perfectly and that your oral health is perfect!
