Save Your Smile With Preventative Care!
Your teeth are under constant assault from plaque bacteria. Over time, the foods you eat can contribute to the growth of the bacteria in plaque, which releases acids that slowly eat away at your enamel. As your enamel continues to be weakened and thinned by plaque acids, cavities and tooth decay become more and more likely.
Everyone gets plaque, and everyone suffers from some level of enamel decay, but did you know it’s easy to prevent and reverse the damage caused to your teeth? Your day-to-day brushing and flossing habits are important, but there are an amazing amount of small hard-to-reach spots in your teeth that are nearly impossible to keep clean! It’s those little spots that can be the first to show signs of decay, and that’s what preventative dentistry care from Eugene Family Dental aims to prevent!
What Is Preventative Care?
As opposed to coming to the dentist once you already have a problem, preventative care is a proactive approach to stopping decay and damage to your teeth before it starts. As part of your regular cleanings, we’ll also perform any preventative treatments that you need or want!
Our preventative treatments are all aimed at preventing decay and revitalizing your enamel to ensure cavities are held at bay. We also incorporate elements of lifestyle coaching and education on proper care of your teeth and diet – preventative care doesn’t end when you leave our office!
Dental sealants are quick and easy to apply to your teeth. Using a plastic composite, we fill in the deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. These hard-to-reach spots are some of the most common places for cavities to develop, and by sealing them we can prevent the growth of plaque! Sealants are fast, easy to apply, and incredibly effective. We can add sealants to your teeth in just a few minutes during a routine cleaning!
Fluoride treatments in our office are delivered along with your regular cleanings. Fluoride helps your teeth to remineralize, meaning that it helps your enamel regrow and create an even protective layer on your teeth. We use standard fluoride gel as well as fluoride varnish, a thin coating that is brushed onto your teeth to provide continuous strengthening!
Dental cleanings are one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy mouth. While your home care can prevent excess plaque growth, those deep nooks and crannies of your mouth are almost unreachable at home! By seeing us every six months, you’ll be guaranteeing a healthy smile for years to come!
Exams are a part of your regular dental cleanings and help us detect and diagnose problems early on. Regular examinations are key to preventing costly procedures down the road, and our advanced technology can make diagnoses incredibly fast and accurate!
Fluoride toothpaste is a product we’re glad to offer – by using it at home you can give your teeth small boosts of enamel strengthening and protection that a regular toothpaste won’t provide.
Nutritional counseling and oral hygiene instruction are incredibly helpful for all of our patients, especially those with families! By teaching you and your children all about home care and proper eating habits, you’ll be performing better maintenance on your teeth and treating them better! If you are interested in nutritional counseling or hygiene instructions, don’t hesitate to ask Dr. Ben!
Mouthguards can protect your teeth from the damage caused by bruxism and sports. Plaque isn’t the only dangerous foe that your teeth have – trauma caused by excess forces from sports and repetitive tooth grinding can wear down and fracture your teeth, causing serious damage. A specially designed mouthguard can prevent that damage from ever occurring!
Preventative care is a fundamental part of maintaining a healthy mouth, and we’re glad to provide all the education, dental appliances, and proactive treatments that we can!
