Eugene Dentist Adds New Laser Treatment for Periodontal DiseaseAugust 27, 2015
EUGENE, OR – Dr. Ben Thomas, a leading Eugene cosmetic dentist, has implemented a new laser technology to treat patients suffering from gum disease or other oral health issues.
The new technology is a soft-tissue diode laser that will allow Eugene Family Dental to complete tissue recontouring (gingivectomy), treat canker sores and cold sores and perform biopsies all under one roof.
“Laser therapy is an added service that allows patients to receive care here in our office that they otherwise would need to be referred out for,” Dr. Thomas said. “Prior to the laser, we had to refer patients to periodontists for any work that needed to be done on the gum tissue. We now can gently contour the gums using laser energy. This promotes faster healing, ensures better restorative outcomes and can be accomplished with only light topical anesthetic.”
Dr. Thomas introduced the laser into the practice in July after undergoing extensive continuing education training. In addition to holding memberships with multiple dental organizations, Dr. Thomas is now recognized as a Fellow in the World Clinical Laser Institute. Dr. Thomas said he has received positive feedback from patients since introducing the laser treatment last month.
“Patients love the added service and are pleasantly surprised with the minimal to no discomfort they experience,” Dr. Thomas said. “I value the ability to provide a growing list of quality services to my patients. The training was a critical component of providing this service safely and effectively.”
Eugene Family Dental, 895 Country Club Road, Suite C150, sees patients of all ages and offers general dentistry, restorative dentistry, gum disease treatment, children’s dentistry, TMJ treatment, endodontics and oral surgery. The practice is a leading Eugene dental provider in cosmetic dentistry and has trained to render quality teeth-whitening treatments and Invisalign.
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic solution that uses clear aligners to gradually straighten teeth. The plastic aligners are invisible and can be easily removed for cleaning and eating. Patients are required to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day in order to receive optimal results. More than three million adults and teenagers across the country have successfully used Invisalign to correct misaligned teeth or fix bite issues.
Dr. Thomas grew up in a dental family. His father is a dentist, and his sister is a dental hygienist. Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Thomas earned his degree in business administration from Brigham Young University and then received his dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University, which is known as one of the best dental schools in the western United States.
Dr. Thomas holds memberships with the Lane County Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association and American Dental Association.
