Eugene Dental Hygienist Plans Service Mission to GuatemalaNovember 30, 2015
EUGENE, OR – A skilled dental hygienist from Eugene Family Dental has scheduled a service mission to Guatemala to provide oral health services to underserved families and low-income families.
Eugene Family Dental’s hygienist, Jill Lampson, plans to spend one week in Guatemala in January 2016. Eugene Family Dental will also donate bulk supplies of oral health care products like toothbrushes and floss to the citizens of Guatemala.
“Jill is involved in such a wonderful and helpful cause, and we’re happy to be a part of something that aims to improve global oral health,” said Dr. Ben Thomas, who operates Eugene Family Dental.
Guatemala has more than 15 million citizens, many of whom do not have access to regular dental health. Additionally, citizens in the country’s smaller communities often have to travel five or six hours on a bus to reach the nearest hospital.
Lampson will be part of a dental team that offers cleanings and preventive care to children, teens and adults. Regular cleanings help prevent dental cavities and gum disease. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and has been connected to problems like heart disease and diabetes.
“By focusing on preventive care, we can help the people of Guatemala maintain healthy mouths,” Dr. Thomas said. “Jill is a wonderful hygienist, and I’m confident that she will help countless children and adults with their oral health concerns.”
Eugene Family Dental, 895 Country Club Rd., Ste. C150, sees patients of all ages and offers general dentistry, restorative dentistry, gum disease treatment, children’s dentistry, TMJ treatment, endodontics and oral surgery. The practice is a leading Eugene dental provider in cosmetic dentistry and has trained to render quality teeth-whitening treatments and Invisalign.
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic solution that uses clear aligners to gradually straighten teeth. The plastic aligners are invisible and can be easily removed for cleaning and eating. Patients are required to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day in order to receive optimal results. More than three million adults and teenagers across the country have successfully used Invisalign to correct misaligned teeth or fix bite issues.
Dr. Thomas grew up in a dental family. His father is a dentist, and his sister is a dental hygienist. Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Thomas earned his degree in business administration from Brigham Young University and then received his dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University, which is known for having one of the best dental schools in the western United States.
Dr. Thomas holds memberships with the Lane County Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association and American Dental Association.
