I have pain in my jaw and muscles
Jaw Pain Solutions Don’t Have To Be Complicated!
When was the last time you really enjoyed a meal? Pain in your jaw can be a persistent distraction that ruins your sleep, makes eating painful, and can even have an effect on your ability to speak! If you’ve been suffering from pain in your jaw and face muscles, you may not know where to turn for help, but Eugene Family Dental can provide you with solutions to relieve your pain. You may even be amazed at how simple they can be!
If you are experiencing muscle pain like what is described above, you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD. The temporomandibular joint is what connects your jaw to your skull, and the muscles around it are what enable you to open and close your jaw. When the muscles of the jaw aren’t working properly, you can experience:
- pain and tenderness in your jaw
- difficulty chewing
- aching pain in and around your ears
- facial pains
- migraines and other headaches
These symptoms aren’t a guarantee of TMD, and in order to make a correct diagnosis we’ll need to perform a thorough exam, including inspection of your mouth and digital X-rays. You’ll meet with Dr. Thomas to determine your best course of treatment and to plan for any additional procedures or appointments that may be necessary.
Treating Your Pain
We know how bad TMD pain can be, which is why we’re committed to providing you effective solutions for pain, migraines, and headaches. One of the most effective solutions to removing TMD pain is a nightguard – a small, easy-to-wear mouthguard that you wear when sleeping. You’ll barely notice you’re wearing it, and you’ll experience amazing results!
TMD nightguards are small devices that fit over your front few teeth, holding your lower jaw in a stable position. This allows your muscles to relax and stay in a position that prevents clenching, grinding, and other sources of discomfort. Over time, this simple tool can even help retrain your muscles to bite and move properly! If your pain is severe, you can wear your nightguard during the day as well.
In some cases of severe TMD, oral surgery to correct your bite may be necessary. If your nightguard isn’t effective, we’ll be happy to work closely with an oral surgeon to get you the results you need to relieve your pain!
If you think you may have TMD, are suffering from jaw and face pain, or have had bad results from TMD treatment in the past, don’t suffer any longer!
